    Depth Range: Range: 14-18m

Galawa meaning pools, Abu meaning father, so any large reef with pools inside is called 'father of pools'. This is a wonderful reef with a wreck of a yacht which sank during the 80's at the depth of 16m. This dive is possible in all weather conditions. The dive starts on a small part north of the main reef and you drop into 12m. Keeping the reef wall on the right you will run into the wreck. The hull and coach roof are still intact, inside is a home to a variety of sweeper fish. Then, keeping the reef on the right you will come across a small channel at about 16m, this enters into the main pool. The bottom is sandy and all around is a wonderful arrangement of mountain corals. If you look to the left you will find another opening that will lead to the east side of the reef, and again keeping the reef on the right side it will lead you back to the boat. Before ending the dive there is an area just in front of the boat at 6m, and we are sure it is one of the prettiest safety stops there is.

  • Abu Galawa S

Location: 8.5 miles from Wadi Lahami
    Access: RIB dive
    Minimum Qualification: All Levels
    Depth Range: Range: 7-18m
    Minimum Divers: 6 divers

    Profile:

The main feature of this dive is a tugboat that sank around 1945. How, is not really known, but it's nice to see the reef taking over the boat. We have added an extra feature, that being entering one of the pools. Afterwards we cross to the outer reef into a wonderful coral garden, keeping the reef wall to our left we venture away to pass the outer habili and visit the wreck. The bow is just under the surface and the aft is at 17m. It's wise not to venture inside as there are quite a number of sharp bits of steel sticking out everywhere and as you will see, not much room to move. After exploring around the wreck the route turns to the boat, and the chance of seeing a couple of large napoleons.

  • Bloomen

Location: 14.4 miles from Wadi Lahami
    Access: RIB dive
    Minimum Qualification: All Levels
    Depth Range: Range: 18-27m
    Minimum Divers: 6 divers

    Profile:

This dive is all about knowing the difference between a nice glass of wine and a glass of vinegar. It's a small area to the west of the reef and is one of the most beautiful landscampes we have to offer as you can find nearly all sorts of coral the Red Sea has to offer in one dive. The current is normally running in a southwesterly direction so on our way back don't forget to hide yourself behind the pinnacles. Because most of the dive is around the same depth it's wise to turn back 10min before decompression to allow yourself time to hide from the current. Once you return to the main reef keep it on the left and you will end up on the south side.

  • Claudia

Location: 10.2 miles from Wadi Lahami
    Access: RIB dive
    Minimum Qualification: All Levels
    Depth Range: 5 - 20 m
    Minimum Divers: 6 divers

    Profile:

This is a very popular reef due to a beautiful cave system running through the south part of the reef. The depth inside ranges between 8 to 10m and around the reef it reaches 20m. The cave consists of two main chambers, one north, one south. They are connected by a lot of small channels and swim-thoughs. The chambers are closed with holes on top, which causes the sunlight to enter the cave creating a magical atmosphere. You have the possibility to see nudibranchs, snappers, goatfish and fusiliers. If you wish to do your own thing it's best to start your dive on the south end, stay at 6m and venture into the reef that way you are sure not to miss the entrance.

The dive profile starts on the north-west side between the two smaller pinnacles in 23m. We move around the pinnacles in an 8-shape. The bottom has a nice coral garden with a huge area of soft corals. The main direction goes towards the main pinnacle in the east. We keep the pinnacle on our right hand side, shallowing up until 14m to aim for a channel to finish the dive in the east. Under the boat you find an anemone city in between 5-13m and other colorful reef fish.

We swim round and round the pinnacle which has soft corals on the east side and coral blocks in the south which are covered with soft corals and fire corals. As we circle up the pinnacle we shallow up until we start the safety stop somewhere close to the pinnacle as the boat waits for us on top of it.

In the north there is sandy bottom with coral patches in a max. depth of 22m. Further north we find a coral garden in 25m. The dive starts north of the reef and we keep the reef on our right side and swim around the pinnacles and through the pools heading south-east where the driver will wait to pick us up. Fishermen & Bedouins call this reef "Gamila" which means beautiful and the reason why they started calling it this is unknown. We start on the north-east side of reef not descending directly to the bottom but stopping at 9m to pass through a channel to a pool. The bottom of the pool is at 15m and inside lies a completely destroyed and scattered boat which sank there in 1906. The sand, coral and water have a brownish-rusty color which is why the site is called iron garden. After we swim out of the first pool, we enter a second pool with a depth of 10-12m. The max. depth of this dive is 16m. In order to get out of the second pool, we have to pass by a hole in around 5m after which we find a very nice coral garden consisting of hard corals. As this spot is shallow, the sun makes all colors shine very bright. To finish the dive, we have to swim far from the reef so the skipper can pick us up. This dive has no currents as the area we dive in is protected by the pool so you can enjoy a very beautiful and calm time here.

  • Lahami N

Location: 5.5 miles from Wadi Lahami
    Access: RIB dive

    Profile:

It's the closest off-shore reef to us and is our introduction to the Fury Shoals. The dive starts at the northeastern tip. As you descend you will find a beatiful wall of mountain corals, it's best to stay around 18-20m for the first 10 mins for as the dive progresses you will reach 27 - 30m on the north plateau. This dive offers an interesting change in landscape. If a current is present, it is normally from east to west over the plateu. Should you feel the current pushing to the west it's advisable to start heading towards to west side before you end up in the blue. Once you reach the west side you will find the current with you. Heading down along the west side you run into yet another garden of hard corals.

    Access: RIB dive
    Minimum Qualification: All Levels
    Depth Range: 8 - 23 m
    Minimum Divers: 6 divers

    Profile:

The dive starts on a small habili on the east side, descending to 18m you cruise across coral gardens visiting a few small pinnacles on the way. Then the landscape changes dramatically, into what we call the stairway to heaven. It's a wonderful arrangement of hard corals rising from 16 m to 8m and at the end there is an archway with some of the best examples of soft corals in the South. There are also some large bushes of black coral. We're afraid this is where the dive ends, as there is nothing in comparison to what you've just seen.

A circle shaped small reef. We start around 30m away from the reef over a pinnacle. We head west towards the reef, keeping the reef on our left hand. It is a nice place with hard corals, banner and big eye empror fish. We usually move through the coral garden where we find batfish, lionfish and sometimes white tip reef sharks. In the north-west side of the reef, there is nice channel starting from 12m ending up at 5m coming out over the reef. The sunshine creates a beautiful atmosphere with glass fish and a couple of clown fish. Everything is covered in hard corals and you will find the landscape changing throughout the 60 min dive.

    Profile:

This is a reef running from north to east to south-west. The north has pinnacles which form a semi-circle pattern, creating a kind of pool between pinnacles and reef. We start our dive outside the pool north of this pinnacle and stop at 15m to enter the channel between the pinnacles into the pool. Once inside pool, we keep the pinnacles on our right and the reef on our left. The pool has a max. depth of around 17m and a sandy bottom with coral patches. Hard corals surround the pool in all directions. Inside the pool we also find anemones with clownfish. At certain times of the year, we meet the odd white tip reef shark who may use this area as a place to securely leave their babies. To get out of the pool, we shallow up to 10m, keep the reef on our left and swim from north to south as a normal dive until we reach the RIB.

The target is to reach a pinnacle around 200m (30 min) away from the main reef. Between the reef and the pinnacle are a lot of coral patches on a white sandy bottom with a max depth of 23m. We leave the pinnacle at our right hand side because there is a nice drop off close to the pinnacle so there is the chance to see nice stuff coming from there. The pinnacle has a very nice wall covered in soft corals with many glass fish and we often see sharks here. We finish around the pinnacle, where the boat will be waiting for us. We call this dive site "walking" because you feel that you want to walk the distance instead of only swimming it.
